If you say "I have never done skin scuba", then that's actually a lie! Because you are telling the story about it now! And you want to tell a story about the first time you did something.

"Last year I played futsal with my friends. I had never played futsal before! Now it is my favorite sport."

A: Coming over in early august sounds nicer, but coming over early in august is fine as well.

Or you could say I'm coming around early august.
