A: Hello! I’m from Australia and I really enjoy answering questions about English on HiNative. The questions that are the most fun to answer are the questions that ask about pronunciation. This is because I’m not from America so I have to pronounce words with a fake American accent. The American accent in particular is really fun because it is everywhere in popular culture — music, movies, YouTube videos. It’s really funny because Americans pronounce ‘water’ very differently from Australians. I made a sound recording of the sentence ‘Drinking water is really important for your health’ in my normal accent, and then in my fake American accent.
