Was ist der Unterschied zwischen I don't give away degrees mate. und I don't give away degrees Mr. Brown. und I don't give away degrees John. ?Du kannst auch einfach Beispielsätze geben.

Student: the union does.
Professor: but... uh you speak to the university about that.
Student: no but it’s...
Professor: talk to me.
Student: but...
Professor: I don’t give away degree mate.

An university student consulted with his professor about his degree.

But his professor couldn't do anything, so the professor answered as above.

How different do you feel with or without the word mate?

I'm thinking as follows.

it is the decision of the union. So, the professor cannot do anything.

And the professor intend to be in the student's side not the union's side.

The professor express this by saying the word mate which expresses solidarity or friendliness.

Is it true?
