Should employees BE compelled to dresS formally, or conversely, should companies put more emphasis on the quality of their work? There are divergent views on this issue.
On the one hand, there is no denying the fact that most companies are worried about the employee's appearance. According to some managers, the smarter their employees look, the better the company's image will be. On such kind of companies, seldom do we someone who wears classical clothes, since what is important for them is to convey an image of power and respectability. Should an employee look deranged, his job could be in jeopardy.
On the other hand, as time has gone by, some companies have found that allowing employees to wear whatever they want can be beneficial for a plethora of reasons. First and foremost, the employees' performance could boost, inasmuch as they will feel more comfortable. This is a win win situation because employees as well as employers will benefit. Secondly, were employees not to be compelled to look alike, their creativity could enhance. This is highly essential for employees whose work demands a great deal of imagination. For instance, by and large, a designer displays part of his personality and creativity towards his clothes and accessories. If he cannot dress as he yearns, he could be devoid of interest in his job. Last but certainly not least, the levels of commitment among employees could spike. What is more, the employee's joyment of their work, will mean a diminisment in workers resignations.
In conclusion, I would say that there is no doubt that the employees's appearance is of paramount importance. Notwithstanding, the more freedom employees are given regarding the kind of clothes they can wear, the more encouraged they will be.
