Is "young" in the sentence used as a noun?
If so, I don't think the sentence is grammatically correct and the sentence should be rewritten as "Male cats are not involved in raising young cats".

An ellipsis is the noun. Although there is no adjective.
I mean it’s kind of a gigantic ellipsis? I added an adjective to describe the noun ellipsis.

The adjective young is short for youngsters. The word cats is the noun.
A male cat is not involved in raising his youngster/ young cats.
