@yanacyma no, the correct sense is when I help better than I can, I get out of my way to help you.
A very simple example -
You need pens.
I had one pen.
But I asked around and gave you two pens.
So, I went out of my way to help you.

go out of one's way simply means to do more than what your means allow you. To do more than what you are able to do, usually to help someone.

@teddybearfy19 I see. So, when you help better than I expected, you get out of your way to help me, right?

Going out of one’s way means doing something one would not normally do or something that would normally be inconvenient. One would usually make this effort to show that one cares for something or someone.

It simply means to go the extra mile. To do more than what is typically expected.
