"whole" and "entire" mean the same thing. they're interchangeable. all of your sentences are correct.
you use "the" when talking abut a specific day. "a" or "an" is used when you're not talking about a specific day.
I'll spend the entire day studying English tomorrow. (specifically tomorrow)
I'll spend an entire day studying English. (any day in the future)
I'll spend the whole day studying English on Monday. (specifically Monday)
I'll spend a whole day studying English this week. (any day of the week)

I think it's because you are referring to something very specific and definite. "I ate the entire pie" = not just any pie, but this pie in particular. Not just some of it, but all of it. The entire pie.

"Entire" is an adjective. It does not itself need "the" in front of it.
However, it usually modifies a single noun. Single nouns need articles in front of them ("a," "an," or "the").
When "entire" modifies a plural noun, you do not need an article:
"The bubonic plague swept through entire countries, killing millions of people."
