Usually this is not normal. If you are talking to a man and he asks for pictures of you, it is probably because he is interested for reasons other than language exchange. In other words, maybe this person is looking for a girlfriend. If a girl asks you for a picture though, maybe she is just interested in what you look like. In any case, you do not have to share pictures with people for language exchange, but for some people it is normal to share pictures of themselves with people they are talking to online.

Not to me. In real language exchange, looking for romance is not the the reason at all. Learning from mistakes being corrected or voice chat to improve oral communication skill and listening skill are the main reason why I am into language exchange. The appearance of my language exchange partner is not important.
