Because it was almost impossible to find tickets FOR the movie. It's referring to the movie in the first part of the sentence before "that", the relative pronoun.
Other examples:
"We were looking for John"
"John was the person who we were looking for"
"We were waiting for the next train"
"It was the next train that we were waiting for"
Hope this helps!

@MarkD So, the preposition end the sentence because it make reference to the subject but this subject is not necessary because it was mentioned before. Is this correct?
Well, I can understand the examples but there's a phrasal verb in the example. And, well, I know it's correct because the preposition is part of itself.
So, are the next sentence correct?
An unsolved tragedy you feel responsible for.
It is the only activity the Security Council has a unique mandate for.

@Aragon
Yes correct.
Both correct.
"for" can go at the end of sentences whether they are part of a phrasal verb or not.
