Here in South Korea we use the expression "parachute"to point a person who is put on a paticular position in a company by a higher manager such as a team manager or the chairman.
How about you? Is there an expression like this? is it of course not that you don't use 'parachute' like this?

Hiring or promoting a relative is called nepotism. Hiring or promoting a friend is called cronyism.
A "golden parachute" is when an executive of a failing company receives an unfairly large severance package upon leaving.
The Peter Principle is the fact that people usually tend to get promoted until they reach a position where they are incompetent, then stay there forever. This is because it is hard to demote someone, and people often get promoted based on skills that they will not use in their new position.
