The coastline is one of the most alluring of our planet's geographical features. klingt das natürlich?
For example, if we say "The zebra is a herbivore.", we are talking about zebra in general. Can we use "the" to express nouns in general such as coastlines, mountains, flowers, for example?

It's grammatically correct, but I think it's a bit weird because there are many coast"lines" in the world. A line has to be continuous, and since the coasts of North America and Europe aren't connected they can't be considered one coastline.
There's the same issue with mountains, because mountains are almost always in groups. If you said "the mountain is one of the most alluring..." it would sound like it's referring to one specific mountain like Mount Everest.
You can say this with flowers. "The flower is one of the planet's most interesting plant structures" for example. "The cell phone is one of humanity's greatest inventions."
