The first one is grammatically incorrect. "I forgot to send a letter yesterday." is correct. If you want to use "sending" you can say, " I planned on sending a letter yesterday but I forgot."
- Koreanisch
Why is it grammatically incorrect?
it's 'S+V+O' isn't it??
isn't the first one the same as 'I forgot the fact that I had sent a letter?'.

@hhoc2000 No. If you wanted to use it in that context you would say " I forgot about sending a letter yesterday. " or "I forgot I sent a letter yesterday."
- Koreanisch
Then way is it impossible to use 'sending(noun)' when it's structure is 'S+V+O'??
I'm so confused.

Sending (noun)=an unpleasant or evil thing or creature supposedly sent by someone with paranormal or magical powers to warn, punish, or take revenge on a person.
- Koreanisch
I'm aware of that like this
send is verb.
sending is noun or adjective.
send is verb.
sending is noun or adjective.

A noun is a person, place or thing. In this context "sending" is an action making it a verb. There is a noun form of the word "Sending" but it means "an unpleasant or evil thing or creature supposedly sent by someone with paranormal or magical powers to warn, punish, or take revenge on a person."
- Koreanisch
Yes it(v-ing)'s a conjugated form and at the same time it also plays the role of a noun like "Running is helpful", and of an adjective like "That's very interesting too."
Though not exactly the same role of the original ones.
I'm aware of the grammar this way.
And my question is the reason..
"I finished cleaning" = S V O(v-ing) (anyway)
when this is correct
"I forgot cleaning" = S V O(v-ing) (anyway)
why this is incorrect..
The difference is only that verb parts. isn't it??
By any chance is that just because of the meaning of the verbs???

In order to make the sentence correct it needs a prepositional phrase. Prepositions are words that are used to link a noun or phrase to another part of the sentence. I forgot "about" sending a letter yesterday.

@hhoc2000 Hi! There is really no difference between the meaning of both of these sentences. The first sentence sounds more robotic and unnatural!
