“I don’t know this topic” means you don’t know the topic itself.
Example: The topic is animals. When you say “I don’t know this topic,” you don’t know the topic “animals.”
“I don’t know [anything] about this topic.” means you do not know any details about the topic.
Example: The topic is plants. When you say “I don’t know [anything] about this topic,” you don’t know any details about plants.
I added “anything” so the sentence makes sense

“I don’t know this topic” is typically used when someone can’t do something. Whenever you’re talking about a language, use “I don’t know that”. It is a shortened way of saying “I don’t know how to do this topic”
Examples:
“I don’t know Spanish.”
“I don’t know Calculus”
“I don’t know about this topic” is typically used for a subject that has a lot of facts, but isn’t an ability.
Examples:
“I don’t know about that war”
“I don’t know about that time period”
Hopefully that helps! Feel free to ask a follow up question if you need to:)

@aarm thank you for answering!
I have a question. When Someone does English speaking test , and they are asked some questions, can they answer “I don’t know this topic “? I know it isn’t an appropriate answer,but I want to know whether that is grammatically correct or not.
