Frage über Englisch (US)

Is it natural to say "I don't prefer (something)"?
More context:
Imagine your father is going to buy you the PS5. However, he thinks that you prefer XBOX. And he says: "My son prefers XBOX rather than PS5".
Can you say to your father this? "I don't prefer XBOX, I prefer PS5"?
I think that in some cases, it sounds odd the use of "I don't prefer"
