An adverb of place/location is placed after a noun.
“Market ahead” is an abbreviated sentence. If the complete sentence were written, it would be this:
A market is located ahead.
There is a market ahead.
Those words won’t fit on road signs, so the sentence is shortened to “Market Ahead”.
