Please, does 'variation' mean 'change'/difference'? Here are the contexts.
First context:
Considerable variation was found in the terms offered by different banks.
She is studying language variation across the social range.
The businesses showed a dramatic variation in how they treated their staff.
There is little variation by sex or social class in these attitudes.
slight variations in pressure
subtle variations of colour and design
subtle variations of light and texture
temperature variation with altitude
variation according to the time of year
variation among the students in terms of ability
variations between different accents
There is considerable variation in tastes across the country.

Yes, 'variation' = 'difference'.
First context = difference among a group. There was variety (e.g. high and low numbers, good ability and bad ability)
Second context = a new, slightly different version of something.
e.g. This soup is a spicy variation on a traditional favourite.
The "traditional favourite" was changed, but now there are two types of soup (traditional + variation).

@morrisononodje In the first set of examples you can say 'difference'. If it is noun + variation (e.g. language variation, temperature variation) then we say 'differences in + noun'.
In the second set of examples, I think 'variation' is the best word to use! I think we have to use different verbs instead of a different noun.
e.g. A traditional favourite has been reimagined to create this spicy soup.
