I would change it to "We are going to plant some vegetables in the kitchen garden, so we sprinkled some magnesium lime to neutralize the land (most vegetables prefer mildly acidic soil)." English doesn't usually allow beginning sentences with "because," only clauses that are part of a sentence. Usually "land" refers to an area of ground, while "soil" is the actual dirt that the plants grow in.
