hi all..
can you tell me what are the most common ways to use the following English clause in português de europeu...
Could you tell ....e.g. could you tell by looking at it....?
I am starting to wonder....e.g. I am starting to wonder if it's ever going to happen....
would it be possible....e.g. would it be possible if I could borrow your pen for a second

Hi!
Off the top of my head, the ones that occur to me if I were to say it in Portuguese are:
Could you tell : Consegue(s) perceber?
Could you tell by looking at it: Consegue(s) perceber só de olhar?
I am starting to wonder: Pergunto-me
I am starting to wonder if it's ever going to happen: Pergunto-me se alguma vez irá acontecer
Would it be possible: Seria possível
Would it be possible to borrow your pen for a second: Seria possível usar a tua/sua caneta por um segundo?
I hope I've helped! 🙂

@sarahwl thanks a lot Sara... just curious why Ser is used instead of Estar ...in seria possível...?

@DamienOBuachalla In English they both translate as "to be", but Estar means to be physically or in some condition( in a temporary state) whereas Ser just means something is or exists (permament)
For example : "I am tired" (eu estou cansado/a) or " I am in the kitchen" (eu estou na cozinha)
vs
" This is a pen" (isto é uma caneta)
In your example you're just asking if it is possible, or not, so you would use Ser
I hope that's not too confusing 😅
