To speak German, do I need to learn to roll my Rs. One of the Rs sounds like an a and the other one I struggle with.

no it is not the spanisch R it is more like the growling of a dog grrrrrrr

It is like the French r. So use this one in the Northern part.
In Austria and Switzerland you can often hear the Italian r.
So please, use that one in the South.

If I struggle with the French R can I just not pronounce it like the French R or would that be wrong?

I’m learning German on Duolingo and is sometimes clear on the R sound. This has helped me out though

Use the R that you are comfortable with. I grew up in Germany since I was little, but form the start I could only roll my R, and never managed to do it the german way, which btw I think sounds horrible. It adds to your character to do it your way.

The soft dutch 'r', spoken with a longish vocal (er,waar) is a good cross between english and german 'r'
It's spoken hard when the word begins with it (Reise), as well as after a fricative (Preise)

In the ending of a word and in between its this 'kinda A' or an even softer dutch 'soft 'r'

Fern -> soft-> fean
Fremd-> hard-> frremd

The pronunciation of r is really something special:

You have any kind of "r" in German depending on where you are. Even a strong "american" R can be heard in some parts in the middle of Germany. Today the most common in standard language is the one you pronounced in your example. It's mostly softer and a bit further back on the palate, but it's also okay like this. This one is called uvular.

The pronunciation of the uvular r is often very weak, without rolling or something. Though in TV- and theatre-pronunciation it is often rolled uvular. The r before vowls and at the end of a word is normally pronounced like in UK-English and not as a consonant (die Ba:, not die BaR, der Beäg, not der BeRg), though in TV-pronunciation it should be pronounced before consonants but not at the end.

The alveolar or retroflex r is frequently heard all over Frankonia, Bavaria, Autria and most parts of Switzerland and of older people in many other parts of Germany, but younger people in Germany generally tend to pronounce uvular (back on the palate).

The alveolar r can be pronounced even before consonants and also at the end, though it's often dropped at the end and sometimes before consonants in Germany. In Switzerland I think it's mostly realised in every position. I am not sure about Austria - should correspondend zu Bavarian.
