Frage über Japanisch

朝からふっていた雪が、お昼をすぎてやみました。

Why is there を after お昼? I understand that in the sentence it says the snow fell from morning until lunch time, but I don't understand the placing of を in this sentence, because "lunch" isn't the thing that is stopping. Also, the すぎて here is a bit confusing to me.
Could someone quickly explain the second part of the sentence? Thank you in advance.
