Natürlich
You only need an article when the noun is generic - "I went to a restaurant" versus "I went to Greasy Joe's". That it happens to be McDonald's in this case is irrelevant. =)
Mind you, it's not completely ungrammatical to say "I went to a McDonald's", but "a McDonald's restaurant" is what's being implied, and no one ever really says that. =P

Thank you for your clear explanation as always, Belthazar! I am familiar with Macca's, but didn't know Greasy Joe's.... Anyway, I fully understand your answer and appreciate it!
The additional information is also helpful. Thanks!

"Greasy Joe's" is the stereotypical name for a small-town cheap fried-stuff takeaway (i.e. "Joe" is a fairly generic name, and the food is greasy).
Mind you, there's apparently a restaurant actually named that in Melbourne, which surprises me. =)

Ooo, thought of an example where you might say "a McDonald's" - if you're just trying to find a branch, and any branch will do. "I travelled to the other end of town just to find a McDonald's, so that I could buy a Big Mac."

Oh, OK. Actually, I just googled "Greasy Joe's" and misunderstood that you talked about the restaurant in Melbourne. Thank you for that further additional information! That also helped me. :)

OK. I understand that "a" could be used as "any". Thank you for the good example as well! :)
