There is vs. there are
Why in spoken English we can hear that people use “there’s” for plural instead of “there are”? Is it because there’s no shortened form for “there are”? Is “there are” used in spoken English at all? I suspect it’s used only in formal situations. Is it a huge mistake if I use “there’s” for plural in written English? Please tell me more about this topic.

You should use there is with singular and uncountable nouns, there are with plural countable nouns. Those who don't use there are with plural nouns make a mistake. Mistakes are common in spoken English. I never use there is with plural nouns, for instance. And yes, you are right. In spoken English and informal writing There is can be used with plural nouns. However, if you were doing an exam, using There is with plural nouns would be considered a mistake. Also, you should remember to use There is if it is followed by a singular noun + a plural noun. There is a table and 4 chairs in the kitchen. Not There are a table and 4 chairs.
