What is the difference between 은/는 and 이/가 ? Sorry if this is a silly question, but they both appear to be subject markers, so what is the difference? when do I use one versus the other?

i think you can translate (or at least regard) 나는 to ‘as for me,’ rather than ‘i’ in most cases and that’s the reason 은/는 is called a topic marker rather than a subject marker.
that is, it doesn’t really try to make the noun it accompanies a subject (which is the star of the sentence that needs your attention). it’s just trying to tell the listener who is related to the facts stated as predicates, which are more important.
and i also think that’s the reason they say 이/가 draws attention to the subject they accompany and 은/는 draws attention to the predicates instead.
here’s an example to help with your understanding:
내가 돈이 없어
i (not you, he, or she but i) have no money
나는 돈이 없어
as for me, there’s no money.

my korean friend told me that you use 이 and 가 for actions that the subject is doing
은 or 는 is used for situations, feelings etc.
